Shibazakura Festival, Mt. Fuji- Gorgeous!

Every year in May the Shibazakura (pink phlox) Festival is held at Mt. Fuji. I thought this would be a great activity to do with my mom, besides, what’s more Japanese than Mt. Fuji? The phlox was a beautiful pink ground cover stretching forever!

There were over 800,000 shibazakura in bloom. This is a close up of two different varieties of the phlox. Just very small flowers totally covering the ground.

The phlox were a dazzling display of different pinks, and a small replica of Mt. Fuji. (Notice the crowds in the background!)

However, yet again, Fujisan (affectionately named by the locals), was being very temperamental. I think I am 0 for 4 in getting a clear shot of this mountain. You can barely see the tip sticking out from above the clouds.

This may be the best shot I got all day.

Close up.

There was also a lovely lake to walk around.

My friend Merri stayed behind to explore the area a bit more, and was able to get this pic a few hours after we left. Argghhhh! Foiled again. Well, I guess I will keep trying. My mom will just have to come back for another visit!

So, other than the 3 hours spent in traffic on the drive home, it was another great day!
