Ao Nang Beach, Krabi, Thailand

We started our first full day in Krabi with a walk to Ao Nang beach. The “longtail” boats were all lined up, ready to take passengers to neighboring islands.  We enjoyed walking this beach.

The girls and I next to the longtails.

I was disappointed, and surprised at the level of trash strewn about throughout the small town though. Such a waste!

The beach here was largely made up of tiny shell fragments, which didn’t feel great to step on! Very interesting to look at though.

Finally, a beach with no tar!

Also, a few stray dogs to keep you company.

We bought a great sand castle set which entertained the girls for hours!

Ella learned a lesson about placing objects too close to the ocean. Her sandals were carried away by the waves. Miraculously, we found both of them out in the surf!

A Thai lady approached me to go to her massage tent and offered me a pineapple wedge. Since I had heard a lot about Thai massage, I took her up on the offer.

The massage places are EVERYWHERE in Thailand and are ridiculously cheap. I got a 1 hour back/neck/shoulders and feet massage for the equivalent of $10 US. You lay down on this mat (in swimsuit) and she does the massage. It was nice listening to the ocean, very relaxing. Odd at times too, like when she was actually sitting on the backs of my legs, I almost laughed out loud! But, it was definitely worth the $10!

The outside of the hut, with their list of services.

The view from the hut. This town seemed mostly to be European tourists, not as many locals as I had imagined.

Since Matt had affectionately begun to call this trip the “Money Pit Trip”, we moved to a different more “budget friendly” hotel for the next 2 nights. The girls swam while we packed up.

We took a tuk tuk, the local mode of transportation, to our next hotel.

It’s odd when you realize that you are carrying around 4 different currencies (Thai Baht, Japanese Yen, US Dollar, and Singapore Dollar) in your wallet. Too bad we already exchanged our Indonesian Rupiah!

The pool at the new hotel. And this hotel even had a better proximity to the beach!

More beach time in the afternoon.

Also, more sand castles!

It was really beautiful.

Question- WHY, oh WHY, do European men feel they need to leave NOTHING to the imagination in swimwear?! They were everywhere!

Another annoying thing at this beach, was getting badgered by vendors every few minutes, asking you to buy their jewelry, scarves, sarong’s, you name it!

We had a truly lovely meal that evening at Bussaba Thai restaurant. I loved the food, the ambiance and the whole experience. I also loved the wonderful balmy breeze blowing in from the open front. I ordered the massaman curry, and Matt had the pad Thai. The presentation was amazing, as well.

Ella ordered the chicken fried rice and Eva had a wonderful chicken and noodle dish. They both really liked everything.

Thailand is known for their intricately carved fruit and vegetables. These beautiful flowers were actually carrots. Amazing!

The mango sticky rice, a favorite Thai dessert, was out of this world!

In the evening we wandered the town to take in some of the nightlife.  These gals(?) were promoting their cabaret show in town. Ella and Eva liked their outfits.

The girls wanted their picture taken with this princess. After conversing with said princess, Ella said to me, “that’s not a princess, that’s a man!” Haha! (He then wanted a tip for posing for the photo, ummm, no.)

A wonderful day, full of surprises!

Those a pretty convincing princesses! We were always bummed about the trash on the beaches in Mexico too. They would be beautiful places..but then covered in trash. Oh well.
